Actually, I don't think the Post Office has had a real say in the pulling out of the villages and towns. This has been the policy of the previous and present Governments who have always had a policy of pulling out of the Post Office as they didn't like the idea of subsidising it despite the social good it did. They went into a process of closing established Post Offices down and then started to franchise it by merging it with local shops. That didn't last long and now they're still closing down Post Offices and franchises.:gaah:

So now instead of a free disc of paper we have to pay £80 for a new set of plates ???

I hope not Jack, I don't actually know what will happen, just assumed the paper disc was being scrapped.

I believe it is going to work the same way that the insurance and MOT does now - you will get a receipt (possibly electronic) and the database will be updated to reflect the fact you have paid. ANPR will almost certainly continue to increase, and those who haven't paid that go on to use their car and it is capture on ANPR will get done (and that might well be a letter and a fine/points through the post in the same way as speed cameras)

They also have to pay out for studded winter tyres that have to be fitted compulsorily from October to April. It's not cheap to live there by any means.

We're better off here than we think! :)
