Is it too late to get flowers from seed this year?

Im trying to decide whether to pop to the garden centre or if I can get them to flower this year from seed.

By way of providing extra information- there were flowering rudbekias in my neighbourhood in October last year.

Hi Melinda, I would think you're better off, this year, buying the plants from the Nursery as it is a little late to get the best out of any seedlings.:cry3: I grow my own Echinaceas, Monardas, and Rudbeckias and have just spent part of the day planting them out as they are of the planting size. Leave growing your own until next year, good luck:thumbsup::D

Well I only germinated my seed last week and they're already going great guns so I'd give it a go. They grow pretty quickly so I think you'll definitely still get flowers this year.

        Thanks to you both :)

I need the colour so, Im going to do belt and braces. I spied a pack of echinacea seeds for a pound yesterday. Armandii, Im still going to pop to the garden centre (£4.99 per pot!!) but only after scouring a local plant fair at the weekend.

The beauty about gardening is that you'll never stop learning and trying different things. If you've already got a packet of seeds then it's definitely worth sowing just for the experience and knowledge you'll get out it, failure doesn't matter and success is heart lifting:thumbsup:

As you say, the belt and braces method will give you colour anyway, so I wish you luck and success with both methods.:D
