I bought this a few weeks ago in bud and slowly the buds became flower stems. Last night it opened its first blooms!

I've read that it's hardy down to minus 7 if dry - is that really the case?

Amazing what a "fit-to-bust" show Succulents et al put on when they flower

So very true! I'm finding them rather addictive.

All that for one day - you're kidding? Who left the Summer Intern in charge of Intelligent Design that day? :)

Actually they only last one night, and one day if kept in the shade.
They are mostly night blooming, opening in the evening.
          Some have a scent.

This had a light scent, a little like white chocolate (but my sense of smell ain't great).

Its the kind of scent that is not that great if you put your nose in the flower, but when its in the air on a warm night its quite pleasant.
