    Google "Miller dowels"

P.S. Don't forget to remove/cover up anything in the understair cupboard that could be spoilt by dripping glue.

I found a supplier of those miller dowels, but funnily enough, not the drill bit.

To be honest though, I'm with Pete in that I can't see the point. Surely a normal piece of dowel will be stronger, because it will be as thick all the way along. I was going to do it this evening but I've been out all day and forgot to go to the shop and its too late now, so I reckon I'll do it tomorrow now.

A standard piece of round dowel will eject all the glue, whilst ones like this will not:

In circumstances like this I nail a batten to the rear of the crack so I can get cramps across to pull it together, but you have to be careful as it can be so effective you squeeze every bit of glue out.

P.S. for products for repairing cavity walls with defective wall ties, check out Hilti products where the new ties (I think they were called 'remedial wall ties') are fixed in resin adhesive injected into a hole drilled through into the inner skin, then tensioned to tie in the outer skin.

I have looked and looked at this product , but I fail to see what the advantage is over a normal glued dowel or screw , with a wooden plug as Pete says ?
