How to get rid of flies in a polytunnel

Dont know how they get in there but there's always loads of them
There mainly at the edges near the top
Should i make a small hole near the top of the polly tunnel where they all gather so they can get out?

 

Having a few spiders in there would help. Other than that grab a fly swatter and start swinging......

 

Other than opening the tunnel as often as possible or hanging some traps (they sell some sticky strips which attracts flies) There is not much else one can do. Certainly I would not use fly killer spray especially if you have edibles in there.

 

I don't bother with the likes of bluebottles and clouds of smaller flies but I keep a kiddies fishing net with a cut down handle to rescue butterflies and remove stinging insects.

 

How do you fancy doing some research on behalf of everyone else.
If you have a significant problem and are prepared to go "Left Field" how about giving the following a go.
FLY PROBLEM, try a zip-lock bag and some pennies

If it works let us know.
If it doesn't, at least you will disprove an old wives tale.

I found a good way of getting rid of flies is to grow a few sarracenia and a few trays of drosera, also those horrible mosquitoes in the water tanks was a generous squirt of ecover washing up liquid as it breaks the water tension. That makes it very unfriendly to mossie larvae trying to come up to breathe.

 

Try planting some Tansy Tanacetum Vulgare. ebay Premier seeds do them 1100 seeds for 99 pence & 59 pence P&P I get quite a lot of seeds from these people & have never been let down once & it dosent matter how many PKTS of seeds you buy you only pay the one 59 pence P&P per order.
