Frozen cacti

Is that in the house Sal, or in a greenhouse?

Any burst pipes?

 

that`s inside the house , I really don`t understand myself , the cactus in the greenhouse are fine , the soil it`s bonedry , I didn`t watering on the leaves or watering at all before leaving , both with healthy roots .

Yes it survived Longk, it usually does.

 

Inspired by you Pete , I`ve took some pictures of my frozen cactus as well ....
not to say that you inspire me to have frost hardy cacti in the first place.

the japanese sedum it`s completely frost , but should take -20c

 

By the way the mistery of the dead cactus , was after solved .
while I was in Thailand my dear mother in law came to my house
and nicely watered all the cactus that i told her not to watering
and even left the window open , while outside was -8c .

I know how you feel Sal! Two years ago I asked my Dad to take care of my plants whilst we were away. When he came around, I said to leave everything in plastic bags alone. He got muddled left everything alone that wasn't in placcy bags and watered the stuff in the bags daily! One of the pots in the bags had at least thirty freshly germinated Deppea splendens seedlings!

 

After the 2010 winter , most of the plants in my garden died down , I`ve left them untill spring was coming , just to see if any plant was growing back .....
didn`t manage that , as while i was working away , my dear mother in law
come along and to surprise me , she dug up all plants and replace the lot with onion and potatoes , that include cutting to the ground the bamboo that took 5 years to reach that size .

She`s been banned to come to my house and garden if I`m not around.

to keep me quite my miss payed me for a new bamboo , 1 large palm and a new cordyline ....

 

At least you got some of your losses replaced! Deppea splendens seed is as rare as rocking horse poo!

 

You do make me feel better ........It`s an horrible situation , they try to help us but in a really bad way .

 

I was rather gutted, but it was my own fault - he kills just about any ornamental plant that he gets near!

 

Your Dad is better then my mother in law then , I` still manage to pull some wild invasive daisy off my garden 3 years after she planted for me as she understood that I`m not too much in potatoes growing, at least she managed to keep something alive

 

In my Dads defence, he has not killed the Lavender that he bought. Trouble is that he will soon be moaning that they are taking the garden over!
He is quite happy (and good at ) all the messing about that is needed to grow a few potatoes!
