Picked the first lot of redcurrant.
        IMG_20180626_081643.jpg
I freeze all of them and make a mixed fruit compote. With red, white and black currants, rhubarb and gooseberries.

Can make a summer pudding, fruit pie or crumble.

My wife picked these beauties from the allotment just before the school run, one pot is for her, the other two are for my daughters! I didn't get any! The strawberries are doing well this year, haven't picked any raspberries or blackcurrants yet.

And who can resist another bowl of ice realm and raspberries :snorky:

@Logan do you find the redcurrants etc come off of the stalks easier if you freeze them first?Might have to experiment next year to see if it helps:smile:

@Kandy there's a lot there. We have the raspberries on our breakfast cereal with a lot of other fruit.

Yes freezing redcurrants and blackcurrants, can get them off the stalks easier.

I have told Mr Kandy about freezing them with the stalks so he is going to give it a go when he harvests the black currants.:blue thumb:

@Logan I will let him do them then as he is the only one that eats them although I do like black currant jam from time to time :snorky:

We freeze our strawberries after eating a lot of them fresh but can’t keep up with them and then when I fancy some I take them out of the freezer and put some in a bowl then I eat them frozen like sweeties. If I let them defrost they taste too tart so I can’t eat them but eating them frozen they retain the sweetness like the day I picked them:biggrin:

@Kandy try a blackcurrant variety called Ebony, they're sweeter. Also tell him to let them go really dark before picking. I use them with apple crumble or a mixed fruit compote, put that on cereal hubby has it on his jam tart.

Are the strawberries hard when frozen?

Picked about 400g of redcurrants and a handful of blackberries.

The currants came from these "Red Lake" bushes.

The blackberries came from this thornless bush grown in a container.

The tips of three canes from last year were used for cuttings so yield is down for this year.

I find they're better in the ground to get a good crop, also the redcurrants.

Hi everyone, we have moved into a house and now the garden is coming to life. We have an apple tree that we have trimmed and needs further pruning get rid of crossing branches but we wondered if any of you knew why some of the apples have spots? Thank you
