My blueberries are looking very sad . Fruit is shrivelling in this weather. I’ve just given them a good soak and hopefully they’ll perk up a bit fingers crossed

My in-laws Worcester Pearmain apple tree only has a couple of dozen apples on it, and last year was its biennial year off. They normally ripen in August but have now started falling off whilst almost fully grown but still unripe with white pips.

Susieshoe, maybe throw some fleece over your blueberries :). They dont really enjoy direct hot sunshine.

Might have to make Damson Gin this year, the Sloes are only the size of peas.

Wild Blackberries are the best producing fruit this year, picked 3lbs this morning, 2lbs yesterday, 1lb day before, 12ozs before that and 8ozs first pick, and there's still loads left on the bushes.

Eating as much as we can and giving away the excess until I can pick 18lbs/day, then I'll process 36lbs at a time into bottled juice every other day.

Yes, prolonged hot, dry weather doesn't seem to adversly affect Blackberries, but it can be 'too good' for them and cause the whole lot to ripen by the end of August at such a rate that they can't all be used before they go to waste, rather than lasting through September and into October.

My in-laws unripe apples continue to fall every day.

Thank you @BigC it's not easy with the birds. The black birds are very clever, I've covered the blueberries with fleece but they saw an opening and nearly got in.:yikes: I was watching them from the window, i went upstairs and saw the opening and quickly closed it with a clothes peg.

They seemed to have disappeared these last few days, i think that it's the neaghbours cat.

                        Nuts are swelling up nicely

It's going to be a mega bumper year for Wallnuts, and also for Hazlenuts, but the Squirrels have started trashing the unripe Hazels.
