I've never tried them before. I bought a jar and thought they might be nice to try at Christmas so I put them away - somewhere.
Apart from the foolproof method of buying another jar and it's bound to turn up, I've no idea where to look. I'm absolutely certain I bought them, in case you're wondering. I've looked in all the likely and some of the unlikely places.
It looks like our Christmas will be pickledwalnutless. Maybe they're disgusting and the fates are looking after me.
After an extensive search, I found the Christmas crackers hiding in plain sight. I've tried plain sight for the walnuts and they're not there either.:noidea:

Join the club. I’ve been searching for two days for a jar of mince pie filling that I know I bought last week.

I'm sure around the middle of January you will both find what you are looking for.

I've got my pickled walnuts that I did during the summer but somehow I'm reluctant to try them, I need someone to try them out on.

When you find the jar @BB3 , please can you also take my hammer, the better santoku knife and assorted socks and post them to me?

The jar is probably in the freezer or on the hat shelf if you have one. My Father is quite tall so when enterig the house he just put things down on a convenient shelf which for him was the hat shelf. The saying still lingers in the family. :)

A friend of mine found his favourite jeans after three years of relentless searching expeditions, in his freezer. Apparently a chewing gum peels off clothing easily when frozen, and equally apparently, it's a good idea to thaw and clean your freezer annually.

@pete and @BB3 Happy Christmas and today at our cheese, moolis, crackers and Quince Wine lunch we had our first pickled walnuts. Amazing taste. You would not know that they were walnuts. The only thing to say though that having brined them for so many days and then again, maybe this could be reduced as you could taste the salt. The texture is lovely and can easily be spread onto jalapeno bread with moolis on top. Wonderful. Will research. Well worth doing and hopefully will try again next year. Will have to start do the veg etc for the main meal soon as we have it later these days. You might wonder why I am able to be on the forum now but the family have gone out for a short walk after we have been driven mad by a quiz that we are doing, and so I thought do some "light" reading. @pete give it a go and forget trying them out on others. Enjoy.

Well, they never turned up. I hope that they discovered a better purpose to their existence than bringing joy to my Christmas feasting.
The stilton tasted better with port anyway - so there.
PS. To rub pickling vinegar into the wound, there was a recipe involving pw on the television today. I bet it tasted revolting!

Just sampled a jar of my pickled walnuts, first impression was that my tongue was on fire, not sure but the acid is far too strong, I used cider vinegar if I remember correctly, the walnuts have broken down into a black soft texture.

There also seems to be a slightly medicinal after taste.

                      Not impressed to be honest.

Probably used the wrong kind of vinegar, something along the lines of the stuff they pickle cucumbers in would be less acidic, I often buy those pickled peppers, (pepperdew), and they seem to be in some fairly mild kind of liquid.

Send me your address @BB3 and I put a dozen jars in the post for you.:roflol::roflol:

Thank you for your kind offer @pete . I will forward my address as soon as I remember it.
I think I'll stop looking for them, now.

I was thinking mine could make a good fence treatment, or preservative for any timber that is going into the ground, it has a very similar colour to creosote.
I'm glad I didn't actually swallow any of it.

My tongue still feels burnt, I'm having to drink lots of cold beer to sooth it.;)
