I have four of them at the front and I want more-being tight-fisted and fresh from a few days dividing other plants-can I divide these too? No room in the greenhouse for cuttings as yet, so can I just pass a knife through the centre of the rootball?

I find it easiest to take cuttings from fresh growth - i.e. softwood cuttings. They will probably root in water, but anything slightly more subtle than that (pot + moist compost + plastic bag) will probably give you close to 100% strike.

Are the ones you have hardy - if they have been outside? (My knowledge is only the greenhouse varieties, but I expect outdoor hardy ones will do just the same)

Hi Claire. My feeling is that you can't do as you propose ie; cut through the roots. Cuttings are the best way....I think :thumb: Cheers...freddy.

Ditto what kristen and freddy say, you will damage the fuschia if you try cutting the root ball. Wait till you get some new green shoots, cuttings from these are one of the easiest and quickest to grow.

Completely agree with everyone else. You will kill the plant if you cut through the root ball. Do you know which one you have?

Okay will do. They are hardy and have gotten through the winter fine and are showing new buds. As to type, I don't know. OH bought them from a sale and they didn't have labels.
