Well, like most ponds, lucius, they'll arrive in their own good time or, in the case of some, not at all.:heehee: You could always ask anyone you know who has Frogs in their pond to share some spawn with you.:snorky:

Frogs always come where there's ponds mate...you most likely know this already any way

Frogs return to the pond to mate in Spring and spawn
              Frogs in Spring:

              • Males return first to the pond in Spring.
              • Frogs return to the pond where they were hatched.
              • Males attract the females to them by croaking.
              • They mate in shallow areas of the pond amongst plant growth.
              Mating:
              • They mate in shallow areas of the pond amongst plant growth.
              • Once he has attracted his female he will grip her from above with his forelimbs in an embrace called ‘amplexus’.
              • The female will then lay spawn which is fertilized by the male as it is released.
              • The female will use plant growth on shallow shelf areas to support herself during this process as she can be suffocated or drowned.
              • The mating can last for days and more than one male can mount one female while she is laying spawn.

[IMG]usually go back to breed where they was born so it could take a while for them to get there naturally collecting spawn and introducing it to the pond speeds up the process.

@Gail_68 I wasn't expecting to see Frogs or Toads as the pond is newly created so needs some time to establish itself. There are Frogs and Toads around this are - I found a beautiful little Toad in my garden last year :wub2: - so I'm sure they will come in time. A few years ago I opened the back door one evening and almost stepped on a load of baby Frogs sitting on the coir mat. They were well camouflaged I almost didn't see them. Maybe that's why they chose to sit there. No idea where they came from as I didn't have a pond then.

I didn't think my pond would be able to support them yet. It doesn't look very inviting at the moment. Would it not be prudent to just wait awhile until there is more ' habitat ' available.

Hi @luciusmaximus well if you have them in the area it won't be long before they come squatters :heehee:...i've read that even if you make a good pot of water and put it into the ground they soon come spring as they want the water, so you could see them quicker than you think mate

Funny you on about them by your door step, i went out to lose the dog one night and there was a massive toad by our front door...hubby picked it up on put it on the decking...bless my dog he just sniffed it :love30:

Frogs spend most of there lives out of water :)

That is up to you :) you could still get some frog spawn naturally this year i don't think its too late yet not for Wales anyhow,

Sounds like you have the habitat :) just need a female and the males will follow
