I tidied up your photos @Balc

Your balcony must be quite large. What else do you grow?

Thanks for that! On a bit of a learning curve!

Ask me what I DON'T grow - might be easier to answer! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

The balcony is only 3 metres long by 1.5m wide & about 2m high! So not very big at all.

I just grow tomatoes, perhaps some strawberries some years. I did try potatoes in a couple of big compost bags many years ago but the space they take up & the poor yield don't make it worth the while so I've not grown them again. I have had a few Green Beans but, although they don't take up much space, growing vertically, we are not particularly keen on them so another veg I don't grow.

One year I also grew some Green Peppers but they didn't do very well either. I've experimented with different veggies over the years but the tomatoes do really well every year!

So am I! The plants themselves don't look like much, in fact more like weeds that Sweet Williams! but they did have very good root systems so I hope they do perform well! It's been very many years since I last grew them As I replant most of the troughs & pots twice a year I find they flower too late & the times clash with with the summer bedding to be put out.

I really don't have the space to grow many seeds onto flowering it means I have to buy them when they are in the shops & plant them out as soon as I can.

I don't think your sweet Williams will be in flower this year (if I'm wrong feel free to post a snap and shame me!)
However they will no doubt flower the following summer. They are a good choice giving scent as well as blooms on the balcony.

Sweet Williams are bi-annuals; they are sown one year & flower the next. These were sown months ago & have been overwintered in small pots out on the balcony all winter. I've just planted them & I'll certainly post a picture, towards the end of May, showing the flowers.

Yes I get that Balc.. I thought they looked a bit small for flowers this summer but I could well be wrong!
I sowed some last year and they are quite a bonny size right now.
I'll look forward to seeing the pics later.

You are quite right regarding the size of the seedlings! I, too, had expected them to do better. At least they all have a good root system! We'll have to wait & see how they turn out! I also think I planted them too close together really. But I don't think I will be keeping the plants once they have finished flowering.
