My gaura belleza is a mass of twigs... dead perennial looking! Do they do this during the winter, like so many perennials, or is mine dead??!

So is mine. They're not frost hardy so it's a guessing game after this winter. But it's also a late flowering perennial, so like many of them, it might re-appear later (similar to Eupatorium).

I thought I saw a few sprigs of fresh growth a while back, though so I am not giving up on it, yet.

Thanks Aaron, I'll keep an eye.

If we do get (and I can't believe I'm saying this) more sever frost next week and snow should I do anything to protect my newly emerging perennials?

By now, I let them take their chances with the weather.

I'm more concerned/annoyed by the slugs eating newly emerging growth.

The Gaura in my garden is looking dead too, usually by now new shoots are coming up.There were lovely strong plants on the stalls at the Farmers Market yesterday so I know where to get a replacment if necessary.
