I like to trawl through a dedicated thread to these on a USA music forum and pick out a few little known ones.

How little known do you want? :heehee:

1960 the Kaye sisters reached No. 50 of the year's top 100

1962 the Vernons Girls had a double sided hit that scraped in at 84. of the year's top 100
The unusual name was because they started at the Vernon Football Pools Company.

This side shows a few stills of the girls with other pop stars of the time

This side was written by Trevor Peacock (Jim Trott in the Vicar of Dibley - No, no, no, - yes)

1963 Much more popular The Crystals reached No. 23 of the year's top 100

And got this to No. 33

Those songs reached No.2 and No. 5 when they came out.

1964 The Ronettes reached No. 62 of the top 100 but managed a very popular No.4 when it came out.

The Elgins , Heaven must have sent you . Never charted but very popular in the clubs.
Correction : Elgins was a female lead and male backing singers . Everyday is a school day

Sorry, but no. The birthplace of Northern Soul is generally regarded as the Twisted Wheel in Manchester. All of the songs could be heard there when it was open. That was between 1963 and 1971. Hardly decades later.

My dad had lots of this stuff so I grew up with it. I’ve always been a fan of Motown and northern soul and i went to the all dayers and all nighters in the 70’s and 80’s. Them were the days :old:.

I can remember singing along to this song with my hair brush microphone [IMG]:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

It's "decades later," and Northern Soul is still alive and well.

The Twisted Wheel was "in my time" as we lived in Manchester first time round from 1965 to 1968.

The BBC made a documentary on Northern Soul a few years ago and it has been shown several times. Its on YouTube.

Northern Soul is still alive and kicking.
