I have a small (6x8) aluminium/glass greenhouse with a Louvre window at the back. My cats clearly have have figured out a way to lift out one of the louvres to leave a gap big enough for them to get inside and enjoy snoozing in the warmth of the greenhouse.

I'm happy for them to snooze in there (I love my cats and they don't damage my plants/seedlings) but I clearly need to fix the glass into the louvres with something sticky enough to stop this happening (I don't want a permanent gap in my greenhouse!)

Silicone sealant isn't ideal because it makes replacing broken glass almost Impossible. Greenhouse putty is expensive because it seems to be available only in huge quantities rather than the 4"-8" or so length which is all I need. I wondered if blu-tack would work (I have a pack of this at home) or any non- setting putty (I also have some plumbers mate left over from a DIY project). Has anyone tried either of these on greenhouse glass? Or do you have any other suggestions?

I use silicone to make running repairs on my greenhouse. It's not permanent and is easily pulled off if the glass needs proper replacement, provided you just use a little. Can you leave the door ajar for your cats, otherwise they will try and find other ways in.

              I don't understand!

Greenhouses are for cats. :blue thumb: We leave the door open no more than 3".

                Thanks everyone for your replies.

I love the idea of installing a flap. I do crack the door open in spring, summer and autumn, but I need to keep it closed in winter for the sake of my overwintering plants (it is unheated). I could replace a glass panel at the back with an offcut from a sheet of outdoor/marine play and put in a flap.

And yes, from the point of view of my cats, the greenhouse is theirs!

You could just place some plastic netting over the whole louvre frame, on the inside or out.
Same with the bottom part of the door when you leave it open.

Hello and welcome @Maggiemay19, I'm new too and everyone is really lovely and friendly.

Have just told one of my cats, Remus Nautilus, that your cat does not damage your seedlings. He was squashing a tray of cosmos earlier and had to be moved to one of his spots!

Totally agree with you @shiney, greenhouses are for cats. I think myself very lucky if the potting bench is free for me to use and not full of lollopy snoozing cat.

                  Today's Remus Nautilus photos below
