    Hi All,

Any ideas how this window os supposed to work.
image.jpg There is a threaded piece in the middle and the 'handle' piece at the bottom turns, but the window does nothing. At present I am holding it open with a piece of wood.

    Regards
    Rusty

Is the cylinder at the bottom screwed into the collar at the top?
Also there should be a pin connecting the top bit with the bottom part.
Dont have these myself but did have one some years ago.

The cylinders do lose pressure over a few years and can stop working properly.

With these you need to screw the 'handle' into the thread clockwise to adjust the opening position. The 'handle' is actually a cylinder with a gas piston, when the temperature rises the gas expands and pushes the piston out, that in turn should open the window. if you can jam it open with a piece of wood it does suggest that the gas has escaped as pete says.

      Hi All,

      Thanks for huge replies.

@ Pete - it is exactly as you describe

I didn't know that it was auto opening, and it would appear to be FUBAR I will get a new one. Where's the best place or are they all much the same.

@ CanadianLori - this how it was setup when I inherited the green house from previous house owner. Should it be setup differently?

      Regards
      Rusty

Mine would be a different makd but thd definitely have the cylinder on thhe top. Presumably that is what raises the window. I know mine don't work the other way round becausd I boo booed one time when reassembling a greenhouse.

Forgot to mention that I have a couple that I bought for my cold frames and they rusted inside. Sso I sprayed them with wd40. Left for awhile then put them in a tub of hot hot water. About 10 minutes later, they "sprung" right out of the thb. Hope this helps :)

      I use these http://www.baylissautovents.co.uk/

The standard ones are fine for ordinary greenhouse roof vents, plus you can buy, and fit, new parts should they require it after a few years.

They are a better type IMO to the one you have @rustyroots
as they don't encroach on the head room once open.

@pete the bayliss are exactly the same ones I have for my hobby greenhouses and sold by Palram. The one that Rusty pictured for us looks like the less expensive ones that rusted a little inside - but they do still work. :)
