Yeah its all just a fun day out, good bunk off school, who at that age wouldn't get involved, some of the adults obviously dont work or also use it as a day off.

Could have been planned for a Sunday perhaps, or maybe that might not have wound enough ordinary people up, which is basically what it seems to be about, have a day off and wind up those that want to go about their usual work.

First and foremost. This youngster has guts. To stand before a crowd and deliver a speech etc. Takes some doing. For years, politicians have muttered about air pollution, and thats it.

Along comes David Attenborough and slams plastic pollution in the seas. The mayor of London has taken steps to try and ease matters by introducing lower and ulez in London.

Regarding school children getting involved, I think that is good. I frown upon politicians visiting classes of primary and junior children and going on about matters the kids don't understand. As for the four or five year old coming out with well informed answers. Mum,Dad let your kids enjoy growing up.

What gets me with Greta and the rest of the " doo-gooders " in her gang is do they ever look at the facts and figures for the UK.

In 1990 our emissions were 589,000 and we were the 8th largest contributor in the world.

In 2017 our emissions were 379,000 and we were the 17th largest contributor in the world.

              This represents a change of - 36 %.... that's MINUS 36 percent.

We now produce around 0 .9 %.... that's LESS than one percent of the worlds emissions.

So, in my ( humble ) opinion, even if we went to zero emissions would it make any change to the world. I think not.

KFF. I agree with you. I have'nt kept records. In the realms of science. I am merely a Doctor of plant sciences, plant pathology and a down to earth gardener.

When perhaps questioned about it. I perhaps would question exactly what is meant by 'our conrtributuion.

Here are a few more figures..........

This is a selection of other countries
                In the same period ( 1990 - 2017 ) , whilst our emissions went down by - 36 %,

                China + 354 %
                Vietnam + 983 %
                Bangladesh + 510 %
                Benin + 1610 %
                Cambodia + 2495 %
                Equa. Guinea + 2445 %
                Laos + 1235 %

This is just a small selection but the most shocking result to me is this......

In the Indian Ocean there is a small island nation who take great pleasure in denouncing the rest of the world as baddies.... The Maldives.,

But, in the same time frame as above their emissions have increased by 1,383 %. Surely if they are so concerned about rising sea-level etc they should lead by example. I realise that their contribution is still small compared to other countries but surely they should be helping themselves as well
                .

I don't think it will make a lot of difference either KFF. I don't know why Greta is campaigning here in a country that is trying to reduce it's 'footprint' and aware of what must be done. With the figures you've produced above I think they are respectable over the time scale. She needs to hit countries like America that are still using large gas guzzling vehicles. It is very rare for cars there to have an engine under 2.0 litres in size. Plastic reduction is another issue that is being ignored by the same countries.

I would have had better view of them if they all that went bought a plant etc and planted it not to mess up collage green, we need more green spaces not damage it, speech's don't work actions does, so the next meating should be one that will do good and not damage things even if it's only a bit of grass

I agree that there are very many parts of the world where she could concentrate her efforts a lot better. U.S., China and India would be a good start.

Percentage increase of emissions is not really a good example but total percentage of world emissions is somewhat better. If you put a new tractor on the island of Sark (Channel Islands) you would massively increase their percentage of emission whilst making a miniscule difference to emissions of the UK. :noidea:
