    Hi All,

I recently purchased a house and the garden is dead! Next week I'm taking down 30 huge pine trees. The garden is totally dark, covered with pine needles and weeds. Where do I start to lay a new lawn? Do I spray weed killer on the ground and then lay turf or grass seed? Any advice for a garden novice like myself would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    PDH

Hi PDH & [IMG]... Well sounds to me like you have a job on there.. If it were me, I would go for a blank canvas.. I would clear of all the loose stuff sitting on top of the ground.. Spray weed killer on anything that was growing.. Get a tree surgeon in to take down the trees & grind out the stumps... Rotovate the whole are... Get mushroom or well rotted farmyard manure & dig it in all over... Meanwhile I would draw up a plan on paper what I wanted to do & see.. If you are unsure grass it.. Then you can cut borders as you want them.. I would use Turf myself, but you will have to water it daily & religiously for at least a month at this time of year & then periodic waterings through the summer ( once a week) if it is a dry one..!!:dh: I hope that gives you some ideas but I am sure others will have ideas too.... Post us some progress pics if you like then we can all add our thoughts.. Good Luck..!!! :gnthb:

    Hi Marley,

I certainly have a big job on my hands. Just to clarify, trees are down next week, digger to grade & slope, weed killer, rotative, mulch then turf? Thanks PDH

Sounds about right PDH.. Except weed killer 1st.. After you have dug it all in & over remove large stones & spend time getting a firm & level surface & then roll it if you can then lay the turf.. :thumb: Good Luck mate..!
