As i'm clearing my garden of weeds, i am turning over the soil to the depth of the fork. I keep coming across these grub like things in the soil. They have always been white - kinda like maggots only much bigger. Yesterday i was digging and came across one that was pale green!! Does anyone know what they are? I've been killing them cos i thought they were bad but i'm not so sure i should have been?

Sound like vine weevil... lots of reports of them this year! I had them and used Provado vine weevil killer; you can also get nematodes to kill them off. Nasty little things that eat your plants roots

    not happy

I'm glad ive been killing the ones ive seen, they do look like the vine weevil on the RHS website you gave me clueless. I have found them in my garden as ive been digging it over and clearing weeds.

When the ground is completely cleared, can i use a soil drench mentioned on the RHS website to kill them? There will be no plants in the garden. Does anyone know how to use the stuff? Any precautions etc?

    Thanks!!

It will be a bit expensive to drench a whole garden with Provado, perhaps someone has a cheaper way.
