    When I first started work we used to get 4 shillings a week tool money.
    So you had to buy your own, always did even when they took the 4 bob away some time in the early 80s.

        I wish I had that when I first started work full time. My wage was £2/7/6 plus commission. Those were the days! :whistle: :doh:

          Not far off what I was earning as a hairdresser @shiney .£2 11 shillings and 6 pence. And we had to buy all our own equipment and work overalls too!!

          When I packed up to have our first born I was earning £44 + commission.

            Our company was American and treated us the same as the workers in the states. Eventually, I was made redundant and when I offered them the keys to my toolboxes they said, "No, the tools are yours. Take them home with you". So as well as enough money to pay off my house I came home with four large chests of tools.

                It meant that if I didn't promote work for myself I didn't earn the money that other jobs were earning. :heehee:
