    hi
i have the above webb cylinder mower but my problem is when I cut the lawn the front roller seems to flatten the grass which stops the cylinder cutter from cutting it,
don't get me wrong it does cut a bit of the grass but when I have finished I've got stripes but still flattened longish grass.
I've adjusted the settings and got it where I can cut paper I've also tried the front roller at different heights.
    any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Try cutting the grass in the opposite direction, cut lawn one way this week then cut it the other way next week

I think you need to have fairly shortish grass first before you can use any sort of mower with a front roller.

They always have a small front roller, i think in most cases the grass gets a chance to spring back upright before the blades hit it.
As @hoofy says it is not designed to cut long grass you need a rotary type for that.

Set the front roller as high as you can and go over the grass, and then go over again at a lower setting.

If the grass is longer than about 4 ins it's going to be hard going.

Haven't they got round the problem by designing a cylinder mower without the front roller?

I did have one that had the front roller with gaps in it.
But I think the basic idea of Pauls mower is for lawns, not wild grass.
People who cut fairly short and very regularly and like stripes.

      ah thank you all
tried the oppersite direction with little or no effect looks like getting my old mower out to cut it short then go from there.
      Cheers all

I was given this beast by an American neighbour.
It’s a cracking easy push mower cuts 18”.…….but no lines.

I used to use one of those for a gardening job. My customer insisted I used that instead of an electric Flymo, was a lovely type of mower to use as long as your grass is flat as a pancake I found.
