Thanks for the reminder to be patient!! It's not my best quality! However, if a lovely Princess Elizabeth rose us the prize, I'm quite prepared to wait as long as it takes!!!
It's been quite emotional pinning my hopes on my own 'give it a go' gardening, as this rose has taken on huge meaning now the house is gone - but you've given me such hope! Thanks so very much x

Hi again! Would a 'sheltered corner' be shady or semi shaded? Behind our composter would be sheltered but dark, whereas the side of the shed has plenty of light?
      Thanks

I'd give my eye teeth for a few buds like them!!!
How old are your cuttings please? Mine were only taken in June.
I've come to the conclusion I have to be patient - I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end!
Thanks so much for your reply and pictures!

Hi Sue , mine have been in semi shade I suppose but I was more concerned about sheltering them from wind and really cold temps.

I know what you mean, my parents were in their house for 50 yrs...now they have gone and so too will be their house and beautiful garden very soon too ..just waiting on probate now and then the contract will get signed. I am really hoping all the cuttings I've taken ( and not just from their roses!!) will survive the winter and be OK. There won't be any 2nd chances.....let's both keep our fingers crossed for ourselves and each other.:fingers crossed::fingers crossed:

It was the same rose I mentioned in my post the first pic was in February this year, the cutting was about a year and a half old! The second pic was 4 mths later....it suddenly sprung into growing mode!!

I'm quite fortunate that cuttings from her favourite fucshia have taken, actually I've got about 20 pots now (taking no chances)
As for the rose, that's much more sentimental, as it's a Woolies rose, she planted in the 60s and I remember that day vividly for some reason. She didn't like it to be pruned and it was enormous!!! If this cutting takes, I've read they can be used as a small climber, and I've got just three spot!!!
Meanwhile, I'll keep an eye on it while it( hopefully) thrives in a sheltered spot by my shed!!!
          Many many thanks
