Ok, so on Thursday my doctor sent me to hospital following numerous chest and throat pain attacks (mainly throat/neck). Turns out that it is suspected Angina
    I am only 49!! :ouch1:
A real eye opener though, which made me start looking at the labels when I did my shopping this weekend. Yeah, it's no secret that ready meals and snacks are loaded with fat, salt, and sugar, but JEEZ!!! It's shocking! :ouch1:I took a bit longer and managed to pick up virtually all of my shop with huge reductions in fat (esp.saturated) and calories. It wasn't much different price wise either.
It's good to see that some of the supermarkets do weight watcher style meals at £1 / £1.50 etc. Tasty too :) I just had a prawn linguine :)
I am determined to keep an eye on my health now, so I have done a spreadsheet listing my daily food intake, and showing the percentage of GDA. So far today, I don't think I have consumed over 60% of 'any' of the different categories of GDA :)
My shop included ryvita, cottage cheese (low fat), chicken, uncooked pasta, fruit, lighter than light mayo (which is amazing), tuna sandwich filler, wholemeal bread, fish low in fat etc
Now all I have to include is the scary bit.....exercise. I am just off for a walk now :)
Stay healthy guys and gals. It's important!! I now have to endure a whole load of tests, and possible angioplasty God bless you all my children :)

Plant sterols - not cheap, but really good for reducing cholesterol; that, and the changes you are already starting to make will make a big difference.

I use benecol sometimes or olive oil based. My cholesterol isn't 'too' bad. 5.4
Doc is worried because of family history. Plus I am diabetic.

Hopefully it will be nothing more than a warning call - time to take care of yourself though :paladin:

Home cooking is the way to go, you know exactly what goes in your food, and you get more "bulk" for your calories because you don;t have the hidden nasties.

Keep an eye on the sugar content too, some foods labelled low fat have more sugar to improve taste.

I haven't as yet. Not really my fave foods. I can do homemade chicken soup, but I never have a carcass these days . No roast chickens in this house since divorce.

I found some low fat smoked fish on offer. I have mackerel and sardines in tins. I heard salmon is good :)

You can have it prepared ready to bung in the oven or grill it. If you buy a half salmon form supermarket it will last you ages you can cut it up and put it in a freezer. Fresh mackerel is better than the tins.

Growing your veg is great too. I am a diabetic and veg (not root veg) is a huge part of my diet.
I am so sorry you have had this scare. Thankfully you can still get your health under control live a long and healthy life though. :)

Thanks all. I bought the tin stuff a while before these attacks Cjt. I just had the worst one ever after only 600mtrs of walking. It stopped me walking this time, with bad pain in chest, throat, and ears too this time :(
I rested a couple of mins and was able to strole home.
It is still hurting slightly now though. This one has really scared me!
