The leaves on our pear trees have developed red spots. Does anyone know what they are and can we do anything about it?

    Thanks

Looks like the beginings of European pear rust.

I can't get a link to work but if you google 'RHS Pear Rust' you should find it OK.

Thanks frogesque. Palustris sent me a link. It looks the same but it says that the underside of the leaf has brown growths corresponding to the red spots. Mine hasn't got that. It looks the same both sides. Maybe that is an early stage.

The book says the brown underneath develops later.
Daft q. if may seem but are there any Juniper bushes nearby? 'Cos that is where it comes from.

Yes. Nearly all the gardens, including ours, have junipers.

I'll keep looking under the leaves.

    Thanks Palustris
