Gosh, RR, I am surprised you told anyone your schedule for the day, especially since you don't plan to be there .... I would just say that it is not convenient for me and they have to arrange a time that is convenient for you.

If they said in their letter Monday - Thursday and they're now saying that's not possible for them, and Friday is not convenient for you, then they'll just have to offer another time - there are other weeks in the year, 51 of 'em to be precise and the windows aren't going anywhere. If a time is not convenient for you then all you have to do is say so, you're under no obligation to explain why. As has already been pointed out, tenant's rights apply, 48 hours notice, if they choose to come at some other time then they'll just have to take their chances on whether you're there or not. And, once an appointment has been made, I'd invite my landlord/landlady to be there - she's the property owner, let her deal with them.

I'm sure someone is going to suggest you don't let them in before seeing some sort of ID, or asking them to wait while you telephone a 'Head Office', but even though the BBA may be a legitimate organisation, it's not beyond possibility that (because those of us not in the construction industry haven't heard of them), they could just as easily have plucked the name from a telephone book and be bogus BBA reps. If that was the case, it's also worth remembering that any telephone number they gave you would also be bogus with a 'mate' on the other end to answer the call. If you're concerned perhaps try to arrange a time when your husband could be there, or ask a neighbour to pop in for those few minutes.

On a slightly different tack, although we don't rent our property, I find - when the door to door 'home improvement' man comes knocking - the quickest way to get rid of them is to smile sweetly and say 'Sorry, I'm not the homeowner'!

No, I didnt tell them my plans for that day, that really is none of their business. I was just trying to show you all that I will really be busy (and stressed and tired) because I'm always fearful of seeming unreasonable :sofa:

Yes, RR, I see where you say that you are not going to explain it all to them in detail, but I was referring to the other paragraph about Friday and the hospital ....

Hope it is all sorted to your satisfaction.

Hmm, having landlady here might well be a good idea. After all, she's the homeowner.

BBA are still being awkward about the date. They emailed back and said they can do Monday the 20th, so I replied fine, in the afternoon. Another email from them said sorry, can't do Monday 20th, how about Weds 22nd? I said I'm not available on Weds (Son's got his CBT booked & I have to take him) but I didnt tell them that.
