My Dad will be 80 in May and we are arranging a party for him.
It will be held in the club where he goes .
He is a very young and fit and healthy man loves to party and enjoy himself as do his friends.
There will be about 150 people going .
I need some ideas for party food that is quick and easy to do and display.
I want the table to look good.
So any ideas and tips please.

We have celebrated a party for my partner father for his 90 (now sadly gone) and I can tell you that he really appreciated, perhaps more than the food, some music and songs live, from his young ages (but if there is music during the meal it does not have to be too close).
The food was served on a huge buffet and it was all soft and easy to chew. Prawn salad, various quiche kind of preparation with different ingredients, cold sliced meat of different sorts(notice that the party was held in a nordic Country where, unlike Italy, they don't mind eating lot of cold food), cheeses and various breads and crackers white and wholemeal, soups, and beautiful cakes.
I would personally write down an extensive list of all your father favourite foods and have them all !!!
Watch out for any choking as i have just been to a first aid course where they said that sometimes people of a certain age are imbarrassed to make too much of a fuss if some food is stuck in their throat, consequently, whoever is sitting at the table with them, cannot intervene on what could be a life saving intervention .
I also would think that the party should be preferably not too long as an elderly person could get easily overtired.

The club is booked from 7 till 11.
There is no problem with any of them getting tired , more likely to be us younger ones. [IMG]
They go out a lot and have dances untill 11 at night all the time.
They got to bed at 3.30 new years day.
The D.J as asked for a list of his favourite songs.
A mix of waltz quick step party dances and he favours the 70s music.
His hobbies are his computer ,photography, gardening and going to his clubs all 4 of them. :D
I am working on a Mid blue gold and white theme.
    It's just the food.
What to have ,how much and the decorations for the table.
Thank for the posts I'll have a good look at them.

Perhaps make a nice album from the scanned pics, add a few appropriate words to them.

Perhaps work up to the present day with scanned pics, postcards, etc, to include the family.

Put some pics of his favourite singers in and let them say "Happy Birthday ........" in a speech balloon.

DON'T forget to add a guest page to round it off nicely.

I think it would be a nice keepsake for your Dad and one that he will often look at and enjoy.

I told my brother about the photos and he is going to try and get a projector so he can put the photos on a disk and have them round the walls of the club all night.

I had a word with my Dad, He said the older people are very 'nice mouthed' as he put it.
They like to have things they don't have or can't normally afford.
And as said soft easy food.
One asked are you having trifle and Gateaux LOL.
It's a while away yet but I do like to get everything ready,so not to leave anything out.
    I'm a planner.
    I love lists :D

Lyn. Marmite and banana sandwiches with the crusts cut off are soft and something that most people don't have very often. [IMG]
