i put some top soil on my lawn a couple fo months ago to level it up a bit, it turned out to be full of weed seeds but in one place a few shoots came up pretty quick and they didnt look like weeds so i put them in pots, does anyone recognise them, there about a foot high at the mo and the stem is really strong

Could they maybe be sunflowers (Helianthus annum)? they regularly use the seed in wild bird feeders... either way your know for certain when they flower:thmb:

another give-away if there sunflowers will be that the stems are rough to the touch and have a kind of bristly sandpaper feel similar on the leaves as well

Certainly looks similar to a sunflower, though the leaf edges look smooth. If it's growing very quickly, it probably is one.

Leaves also look similar to the annual evening primrose which seeds all over.
Not sure about the terminal bud though can't really see from the picture
