    Hoverfly life cycle is fairly conventional, mate, eggs, larvae,adult repeat from start.
    There are a lot of species in the UK. Some larvae are predatory and tuck into greenfly with great joy, others eat decaying matter and some live in water, adults tend to eat nectar/pollen and are good pollinators.
    Overall a good thing, to be encouraged and looked at with interest.

        And besides, the hoversomethings must have been frightened away by the mastodonts. Awful nuisance those are, regardless that their mauve colouring goes nicely with my colour scheme.:dunno: :heehee:

        Don't they squash the bedding plants? I had some nesting in the skimmia...broke the branches flat:heehee:
