Brilliant! Mine are it too far behind yours so I guess I can expect buds within a few weeks as well.

Does anyone overwinter their Conaea? In thinking of digging mine up in the autumn and overwintering the root stock.

I can overwinter them ... but then I'm in a different climate ... except for perhaps today when you will be hotter than here! :phew:

I seem to remember someone living in Cornwall mentioning it on another forum.

Just a thought but quite a lot of climbers dont actually start to flower until they run out of upward support.
So when they start to have to go horizontal they form the flower buds.
Passion flowers are one that appear to do this and I wouldn't mind betting Cobaea is similar.

Could be Pete, mine seemed to developed flower buds once they'd started growing horizontally across the roof of our outbuilding. On closer inspection today the largest flower buds are on the roof, but there are plenty of others as low down as a couple of feet off the ground :)

Think I agree with you here Pete as it does seem that the common P caerulea does appear to have a similar mindset. Strangely, I still can't get rid of the latter here ... but can't get it going at the river property and I put a whole pack of seeds in ...

How about potting up a couple of suckers, then planting them at the new place.:)

Thought of that Pete, but we are where we won't have any rain for months and we only go there three times a week so watering is a problem at the moment ... perhaps in our rain season, so I have to wait another year ... :gaah:

Do they start white and fade to purple or is it the other way round?

Hi Coolsox, I'm assuming they start white and change to purple as the first half dozen have opened on mine today and are a creamy off white colour with a tinge of green but I did notice that by the end of the day there was some purple colour showing :)

Here's some photos of mine today, photos showing the whole plant where its clambered on to the roof after reaching the top of the wall, a new flower that hasn't changed colour and two that opened yesterday :)
