[....]A young bloke near where I live decided to prune a tree in his front garden. He hired a chainsaw from the local hire place. He wore the regulation gardener's chainsaw safety gear: Sweatshirt, tracksuit bottoms, trainers etc. No face/head protection, that's for wuzzes. Ladders? who needs 'em; you climb the tree, and hang in there like a monkey with your left arm, whilst operating the chainsaw with your right arm. Simples. Then sit in the tree whilst cutting through the branch above your leg, in a downward manner towards your other leg. Saves a few bob I suppose.[...]from canalworld.net

I must admit I'm fairly relaxed about health and safety rules, and have regularly used a chainsaw without wearing the proper gear.

However, even I have some awareness of danger. I would never use the chainsaw above head height, never use it unless I have got a good grip with both feet in a nice solid stance, and never, ever cut such that the saw will get me if the wood is softer than I expected.

My father in laws friends son was killed about 3 years ago when he was felling a small tree for a neighbour and the saw kicked back and hit him in the stomach. There is only one winner when it goes wrong with a chain saw and it's not us. Personally the scare the bejesus out of me and I will not use one

Good job you didn't slip and "sit" on that white pole Loli!

Come to think of it ... what was the photographer up to?

No sympathy for anyone using a chainsaw and not wearing the special fibre [that gums up the chains and stops it dead] safety clothing. Getting a kickback, or chain malfunction, or whatever is going to happen sooner or later, and when the chain meets your thigh its going to find it easier going than solid wood ...
