    Big brother is watching you.
Wes Streeting can poke that idea up his labour spot where the sun don't shine

I don't have apps as I don't have a mobile phone but, of course, the supermarkets may be able to make 'healthier choices' announcements.

Most supermarkets have a 'quiet hour' with no music, no announcements and slightly dimmer lighting which is very helpful for parents with children with autism - and other people who don't like the noise, such as myself.

Sainsbury's are one of the few who don't have 'quiet hour'. They lost me as a customer! :old:

Sainsbury's is incredibly noisy, with alarms going off all the time. I have taken to stopping what I am scanning to cover my ears in order to cope. I am seriously considering wearing my noise-reduction headphones, but, as I walk there, it is one more thing to carry home.

@pete, and he can put his plan to siphon off the DNA from every newborn to create a database to predict future health problems in the same place frankly! :th scifD36:

I used to shop on Saturday mornings while I was working.
Suddenly the music would stop, half the lights would go out and it was like we suddenly had a power cut.

Personally I found it a right pain in back side, there were certain corners where you were groping around in the dark, you really needed to take a torch if you wanted to read anything.

I dont go there on Saturdays now so not sure if they still do it.

Yes it would be good to know when you are born that when you reach 40 you're going to die:biggrin:

It would be much more help if they told you where you are going to die, that way you could avoid ever going there.

The DNA thing sounds, to me, to be just a hop skip and a jump from eugenics.

Tesco has one of their 'quiet hours' between 9 - 10 a.m. on Saturdays and the other on Wednesdays. They even lower the sound on their checkouts. I either go then or at 6 a.m. in the morning when they aren't busy. Although they only 'open' at 6 a.m. they open their doors earlier. I get there about 5.45 and can load up my trolley but can't check out until 6 a.m. I then get one of their self checkout guns (the gun dispensers are not open until 6.00) and zap the products and bag them, quickly finish my shopping and do the self checkout.

To let you know when they are officially open they dim the lights for a second and then raise them.

We early shoppers know how it works :dbgrtmb:

I went to a garden centre some years ago and the opened at 9.30 on a sunday but you couldn't ceck out until 10.00am.
Anyway I grabbed what I wanted and was told I'd have to wait 15 minutes to checkout.

I put down what I had and started to walk out, I wasn't going to hang around for 15 minutes, the boss came over and said, you know me dont you, I said no, yes you do, give me the money and I'll put it in the till at 10.00 am.

Which I did and walked out.

Its the stupid Sunday trading laws.:wallbanging:

I’m old enough to remember the cottage hospitals, which were closed down as being old fashioned and out-dated and inefficient. Is this a case of what goes around comes around or am I missing something?

PM says new plan will 'fundamentally rewire' the NHS

That is not the intention, but you can never guarantee how data gathered now might be used later. What it will very likely lead to is people having to pay more for mortgages or life insurance if they are considered a "risk" because they have an increased likelihood of getting a particular condition.

Apologies for my ignorance but who is Wes Streeting ? Scientist, ecologist, Food expert or just another celeb ? Name vaguely rings a bell but that's about it.
