Yup, the slipper does it! Doesn't look at all like in my books - I admit defeat! Is it an acid-lover? Hope so, or Paladin will be feeding his saved-plant in vain!

I see the underside of the leaf is white - Paladin - can you confirn this in your plant? then we'd know for sure - some rhodies have a rather furry underside, but not usually white, so that would confirm it , I think.

 

P.s. Pete - do you always wear your slippers, and what looks suspiciously like pyjamas at half past 7?? :D

 

I have been looking at the leaf vein structure and notice a difference.Also my pic shows the leaves very glossy when in fact they are not, and have the texture of a nettle...very,slightly hairy!.The underside is not white..just a paler shade of green.

 

Any chance you could send me a leaf, Paladin?

Iam somewhat cross, I can see a plant but no slippers or pyjamas! The thing that strikes me is that the leaves are in threes, which is unusual.

 

The slippers there but dendy made the bit up about the pyjamas :D
Thats my point Liz, the same as Paladins first pic. His plant is very starved and yellow but the stems and leaf shape are, I think, the same.

 

Should add, my pic was taken using a flash, so the leaves are really shiney.

 

I can see now - it's jeans!! It's really interesting now - the 3-leaflet business fits with Piptanthus - but I'm still not 100% convinced. Maybe I won't be until the flowers appear - let's hope Paladin can keep it healthy enough to flower!! Since Piptanthus is like broom in flower, we should be able to tell the difference between that and a rhodie, surely!!!

 

Has it got any flower buds Paladin?
If its piptanthus and its going to flower this spring the buds should be there now.
They look like an upright green pinecone.
