I will do that. Thankyou for your words, they have helped. I posted trying to help someone else, and as usual I get helped myself in the process.

    Hi Claire
Set yourself a date and work toward it psychologically , New Years day is a Thursday is that a good day or would you rather have a day when you are at work,:gnthb: stock up on all the distractions ,gum ,mints etc, watch the diet.:hehe:
Then go for it, what ever works for you ,i`m sure you will get loads of support from family and all your friends in the real world and the virtual world on here, i wish you well. :flwsml:

    It will be before then.

As far as a good time, saturday is the best day really, I have the kids to distract me and don`t have to get up early in the morning that way.

If not this weekend then it will be the next

If its any help, get a big jam jar and when you stop put the money you would have spent on fags into it each day. Each month count it up and think about setting fire to it.

Mantras help too - "I do not need a cigarette to help me get through difficult situations".

I smoked for 15 years, 20+ a day and this time I know I will stay stopped. Don't know why, but having a supportive partner (who doesn't smoke), the general anti-smoking vibe around and the lack of opportunities to light up have all assisted me. Setting a date is a great idea. And following the AA idea of one day at a time - "today I am not smoking" helps.

Keep "talking" here. Having support is what you need :)

Claire, when you come down to it, you only have to give up ONE cigarette. The next one.:thumb:
