Maybe back in history someone did and then realised the error of their ways? :dunno:

As far as I'm aware (and I may be wrong), the cysts bashed with the old family bible were fluid filled lumps. The bible would squish the lumps and the fluid would drain into the surrounding tissue.

A bunion isn't a fluid filled lump but a boney protrusion. Not something I would recommend bashing with a big, old, family bible or anything else for that matter

If you go to the doctors they should be able to get you an appointment to see a chiropodist which can give you advise that may help x

Being a high-heeled gal all my working life (not just that but only strappy sandals even in the snow :heehee: ) I developed a 'disturbing' bit on the base of the big toe where it joins the instep (now, how technically medical is that, I ask?) and it was so painful went to the doctor ... this was when I was still in Buckinghamshire. I was told it was a bunion developing and to stop wearing my high heels for a period of time and sure enough the painful swelling went away thankfully. :love30:

There are some new-type bandaids out now with gel in them for such horrors. I bought a pack of 3 in Lidl last year for about 99c as t'other half was starting to suffer with something on his heel but he never tried them so them remain in the medicine cupboard. See if you have such like there. My sympathies are definitely with you because that is very painful.

PS I just wear toe posts now most of the year living in a warm climate, have about 20 pairs, but they are all flat albeit some glittery and all very stylish in various colours and styles (not rubber flip flop horrors!). Still have a few pairs of stilletos for those special times when they are not on my feet very long ... ;) ... and wedges / ankle strap low heels.

Val, I don't like to say this but I do speak from experience. In time - over a few years maybe, you will find you are unable to take your dogs out walking. Please do not dismiss surgery out of hand as without corrective treatment you will be crippled by it in time. Had both of mine done and now look forward to walking without pain,
          Jenny

Not these days, they come round and mark the correct one with a big, black felt tip while you are still awake and can protest if it's wrong.

I have a small bunion, years of high heels,I started having incredible pain in my arch, like a knife going up inside foot, so off to see the podiatrist, he said not bad enough for surgery and it`s not always successful, so flat shoes with one of those insert thingys, it got no better, then I noticed if I wore a low heel "Kitten" it was not so painful, so I do not wear "ballerina" type shoes anymore and I seldom get pain, trial and error I suppose. I wore my flip flops one day while on cruise and my arch hurt that night.

I have a bunion caused by years of dancing tango in ridiculous heels. It causes no problems if I wear comfy flat shoes with laces or straps. Walking boots are fine and it doesn't hurt much even on along walk.

The COMPEED plasters are really soft although they have some contraindications.

My bunions first started to form when I was about 12 years old - the reason was that because I did so much ballet dancing and they put me into point work far too early. We used to have lambs wool pushed into the block point and when we took our shoes off the toes would often bleed. When I was 17 and in hospital, someone there had their bunions removed - she was in so much pain I always vowed I would never have mine done. Struggled over the years with the must wear high heels but said goodbye to them about 5 years ago. Still got the bunions - little pain now at times but thank goodness for flat shoes and boots.

Annie, how I envy you your ballet dancing, I would have loved to have done that. No, I won't be having my bunion removed, flat shoes and boots for me now as well!!! :)

Val I started ballet dancing, tap dancing and acrobatics when I was 5 years old until about 16 when I started noticing 'boys' and gave it up. When I was 12 and for the following 3 years I was in Pantomimes and one year played the girl babe in 'Babes in the Wood'. We travelled to a different town every week for 4 weeks - but had to attend a different school each week (which was awful). From 17 to about 30 I did the dancing parts in the local Operatic society. I started my daughter dancing but she hated it and eventually realised I was wasting my money but my Grandaughter loves it.
