A ceanothus martin...californian lilac Lots of varieties from low mounds to trees (Trewithen Blue) They grow fast....give them sun, warmth, good drainage and neutral soil and they will thrive
Thank you Verdun, it looks lovely it really stands out, will put it on my wish list now I know what it is many thanks.
You can buy one for under £3 in Morrisons. Repens is the one hugging the ground. Can't remember the name of the upright one. It is lovely and smothered with flowers at this time of the year. A looker!
Thank you alp, I do have something that's flowering blue from Morrison's but only a few flowers and not really standing out, I will take a few pictures it could well be it.
We had Trewithen years ago and the flowers were a pale blue colour and there wasn't much scent to it.A friend of ours had Concha which grew taller and the scent was fantastic
I hope you have the label as I thought I bought an upright one, but it turned out to be a ground hugging one. It literally blocked my door! LOL! So I got rid of it as I have only a small garden. Then I bought an upright one which I hope to move with. It's in a pot and suffering from the Essex drought. Poor thing!
Nothing beats Concha in my opinion As hardy as most and the best blue....as a matter of fact I thought that might be Concha in Martin's picture
In one of my gardens I had a Paul's Scarlet rose next to a pyracantha next to a Ceanothus - that was back in the day I had visions of a red, white and blue display. Only issue was, they didn't all bloom at the same time Concha is on my wish list too
Thanks all, this is what I have with little blue flowers, I don't think its a ceanothus, looking online the ceanothus has pointed leaves this has a more round leave.
That is definitely a Ceanothus Martin. But I go along with "Concha" as being one of the best, a really dark blue.
Thank you Pete, I will have a run round garden centre's over the bank holiday and see what I can pick up, This is hid behind a conifer, I think I will out most of the conifers now the climbers and shrubs are getting established.
No need; take your time That is what I love about gardening and gardeners: never afraid to undo something!
