    Hornbeam's option for iris (retinal?) scans is a far more secure way of confirming identity. Micro-chips can be cloned/removed/replaced ,which is what happens with credit cards and many other digital payment cards, and if there is enough money to be made from it criminals will do it.
    The main problems with retinal scanning are the cost of scanners and the time it takes to perform a scan. It is already in use in very high security applications.

    BTW. I've had my NI number pirated by an office cleaner in the NE of England. If some form of positive ID had been required it probably wouldn't have happened. As it was I got things sorted out with no financial loss and not too much hassle.
