ID Local Planter Plant?

Not the greatest of photos, these tallish ( 2-3 ft ) slender purple plants are in a few of the village planters. I feel I really should know the name , but as usual I don't ( hangs head in shame )

might it be Purple Toadflax -Linaria purpurea
such a lovely plant- most buzzy flutterby friendly too- try to collect some seeds very easy to propagate

 

Thanks @BeeHappy , Linaria purpurea does ring a bell . I'll have a closer look at the flower heads later this week for a better ID .

 

I,m not sure the foliage looks right for Linaria.
I was wondering if it might be some kind of Salvia perhaps.

 

It wouldn't be........the famous African Blue Basil? You need to rub a leaf to confirm, HarryS

Hi Harry , i'd say definately a Salvia. Perhaps one of the S. Nemerosa hybrids.

 

Perovskia maybe ?

 

I took the photo out of my car window, as I was to bone idle to get out.
I'll nip up to the village tomorrow and take a close up photo of the flower and leaves , and rub a leave or two. We'll identify this pesky plant , it won't beat GC !

Probably dug all the summer bedding out yesterday and filled it up with wall flowers

 

Got a photo of the leaves ( they don't smell basilly ) and the flowers. Hope this helps ?

 

@HarryS see KFF post above i think he's spot on Salvia

 

Hi Harry , I think @longk will be able to give you a more definate answer. He's the GC " KoS " { King of Salvias }

 

I aggree with @KFF , it looks like one of the S.nemerosa cultivars to me.
