      So it is salvia nemorosa . I'll have a go growing them next year . Better not take any sneaky cuttings , Beehappy , the planters are on a very busy corner , and I would be spotted !

          I know it would look bad to take a few cuttings Harry, but I'm willing to bet it is bound for the compost heap in a few weeks.

          You could go under cover of darkness :biggrin:

          I was once caught pruning a young oak tree, that had had its lower branches snapped off by vandals, in the local park.
          I just got a strange stare from this bloke as he walked by, and there was me with a pruning saw.:biggrin::biggrin:

              I have to agree.
              Around here'ish there is a municipal bed that was planted up with low growing plants so as to spell out some anniversary or something. Guess what - it's illegible!! To frame this disaster they've used a couple of hundred Echeveria elegans which are planted into the heavy largely clay soil. Even if they are thinking of leaving this eyesore in place they're doomed so I'm going to go along and "rescue" a couple of dozen.
