Heard it all before, remember the Conservatives' promises of 'localism' before the last election? We were promised that being able to choose how much housing would be built would be decided locally, what a load of tosh that turned out to be.

We have had a certain road around here shut for over a month, its meant most traffic having to divert right through the centre of town.
Anyway its done now until the spring when they shut the next section, god help us.

I'm just wondering if the new stretch, about half a mile long, will remain in tact until the spring.
Its been a couple of weeks now, and "Joe Bloggs and Co", hasn't started digging holes in it, yet.
But they will, then they will bodge it up afterwards, and we will be back to square one as usual.

Most roads around here are damaged by the service providers, until they are made responsible for their holes we will have the same situation.
Most contractors used by the water gas etc. seem to be pretty awful in putting it back right, after burrowing around in attempts to find their pipes.

As for manholes, well 2in above or 3ins below, but never level.

Depends on the road and road condition at the outset FC. They're just doing a stretch near me and a bang up job too. Yikes, sticking up for roads maintenance - whatever next?!

I see The Salmond refuses to stitch his lips together and is crying foul again already. What a shocker that is. I can't see the timetable being adhered to, as laid out in "pwomises" by the Westminster types, it was always a stretch to have all the negotiation and bickering done in the timeframe.

Maybe we should have a new referendum. The question could be:

Should someone punch Alex Salmond right in the mush: Yes or No.

I don't agree with violence, but for Mr Salmond I would be prepared to make an exception

The voting paper should say YES or YES.

In the City of London things are slightly different. When a utility applies for permission to pull the road they are given very strict parameters, they also have to wait for the Corporation (not a Council) to contact all the other utilities to tell them that the road will be dug up and that they must apply, now, for permission if they need to do any work. All work will be done at the same time and if they don't schedule work to be done then they can't apply for at least 18 months (except for emergencies). There are, also, strong penalty clauses. Local businesses are also consulted with regard to the timing.

Good organisation, efficient planning and proper monitoring causes the least disruption.

Salmond caused all the misery and now he wants to prolong it as long as possible all the while blaming anyone but himself!

I would like to see exactly what all the new powers for Scotland are - all laid out in as clear a way as westminster types can manage. I'd also like to know just how the alleged new english powers compare and what financial impact they have on both ends of the country...
