Inherited an allotment and not sure what to do!

    The mounding up of soil over the potatoes is to keep them from being exposed to the sun, which would turn them green. I heard all my life that it was to make more potatoes, but when you are digging them, notice that the potatoes grow from the point of the seed potato you planted.

      Thanks @Baymule I wish id not bothered as they were growing well. I've mounded up before when doing bags but never got many potatoes....id put it down to my old house having a very shady garden.
