      Thanks, Sheal - I thought it may be something to do with height, but, as I don't have any (height, that is) it hasn't really been an issue for me :heehee:

            @Sheal

            Although Health & Safety normally take things too far, I have to agree with them on this occasion as a blocked flue is serious.
            Rounded cages are available and you can even put a bit of rubber around the bottom edge to dampen any contacts between your head and it.
            (Unless of course there is some crazy rule that says you can't do that, please check first).

            We tried the "friendly approach" once and it worked out really well. The neighbours wanted to trim our side of the fence when they did theirs but were too shy / embarrassed to ask! It eventually came up in a general conversation and now a days we just chop our side whenever. (No need to give the trimmings back either lol) :)

                  I can see the headlines now:

                  "Man held for trimming neighbour's bush"

                  ....and he didn't even have the decency to offer her the clippings.

                    That would be no good to me Dave. The outlet/flue that comes from my boiler is about a foot long. I have a combination gas boiler and the flue releases vapour. A cage to fit it would be more dangerous than the present flue and besides it's in a place where we're unlikely to walk into it. :)

                    Fair enough.

                    OK, I read it that you were likely to bash your head on it whilst gardening under it.

                    Is the rule to stop you whacking your head on it? I thought it was to reduce the risk of anything being stacked against it thus obstructing it. If it has a cage around it, and anything impinges on its space, at least the cage will hold the offending item clear so that the gases can still flow relatively unobstructed.

                      I had an anecdote about trimming my neighbours bush without asking but...err..well...yes...don't think I will now.

                      I won't mention her flue either.
