      Standard practice with emails:-

Never, never, never click on a link in an email that you haven't been expecting. Even if it's from a bank you bank with, don't click a link but phone the bank and ask them. Don't phone a number that's put in the email, either.

Banks will never ask for information by email. Although they might ask you to contact them through your normal way of doing so.

The other day I received an email telling me that I have been fined for not sending in a tax return.

It was addressed to 'Dear Taxpayer' (The taxman and financial institutions will always address you by your correct name and put your reference number on the document).
      The grammar was poor.
It said it was from the Internal Revenue Service (the UK don't have such an organisation - the U.S.A. does).
The email address it came from wasn't a revenue email (unless they've changed their name to edgenergy :heehee:).
The attached file they wanted me to open was entitled 'Furtively.zip'.
Not a bad number of errors for something that had less than thirty words in it!!!! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Another popular Scam is sending an email as if it's from a courier/parcel service saying they have a package for you and please click on the link. Don't do it! :hate-shocked:

Hubby has had two emails from Google Ads today, to inform him that he hasn't paid his subscription so he can no longer recieve ads! The email went on to say his payment details were out of date, the payment details were not a bank card number we recognise, there was of course a link to follow to put in your up to date card details! He seems to be getting quite a few of these types of emails at the moment :gaah: hes getting rather cheesed off with it to be quite honest, is anyone else experiencing the same problems?

My mum had a telephone call from someone the other week supposedly from the Halifax. She just hung up on him. When we next went into town we went in and told them and ( I don't know whether this is the same for every bank but I know Lloyds is the same ) they said that they would always contact their customers by letter requesting you to go into your branch. They would never discuss account details by phone or email or letter.

People sometimes use other people's email addresses when signing up for things like that (at least that's what everybody said who had their's published online following the Ashley Maddison hack).

When companies make printable coupons availabe online to get free products, some try and restrict naughty people from printing hundreds of them and emptying the supermarkets, but when the voucher isn't sent to the email but can be printed immediately sfter 'verification' some very naughty people simply make up hundreds of fake address and empty their local shops. Some of these could inadvertantly be real addresses, Perhaps there's actually people out there with mickey (1 to 999) @mouse.com?
