We have just cleared the bottom of our garden including lots of ivy. We are now left with lots of brown roots - are these ivy roots? We want to put some grass seed down - what is the best way of getting rid of the roots? Glyphosphate? Any advice would be appreciated. IMG_0939.JPG

When you find out let me know.:biggrin::biggrin:

Ivy has to be one of the worst weeds around, glyphosate doesn't seem to touch it and without leaves glyphosate doesn't work anyway.

I've tried SBK but it doesn't have much effect either.

    Wait until ground is moist.
    Then very gently pull.
It should run and be pulled up easily.
Only the big bits are deep.
Normally most ivy roots are just under the surface.
    It is very therapeutic!

I had the same problem recently. As Silver Surfer says, best way is to wait till it's been raining, then gently pull the roots out of the ground, they don't go deep. Worked for me. Few weed killers touch it, and anyway if you're going to plant grass you don't want to poison the soil.
