Some has appeared, a bit small. I tried forcing it but think it would be better to weed and feed just this year rather than eat it:

Behind the fruit bushes at the top end of my plot, not yet prepared - apart from me weedkilling off the grass. Can't see it too well from this photo, I guess it is about 12 X 4yds:

Came back from holiday to find my freshly planted Cosmos and Larkspur have been eaten by pigeons, I hadn't realised they went for flowers. Will have to net my next batch of flowers.

I have problem with Woodies, but normally only over winter/spring with them eating green stuff, or under-ripe currants before netted against Blackbirds, but I've had Crows pulling out courgettes, and Blackbirds pulling out leeks, sprouting Onion sets/Garlic cloves and Strawberry plants.

Keep an eye on the Wilkos reductions thread for plastic bird netting.

Terrific allotment John, you should do well if the woodies and crows leave it alone, Well done!

BTW Double digging in depth is how we were taught in Rural Science at school. We had some lovely allotments for youngsters.

Yes I was taught Rural Science too, we had greenhouses and plots. How things have changed (and much for the worse) since those practical skills were dropped from schools.

Unfortunately, a lot of the school grounds were sold off for building land and Sports Hall replaced the acreage.

I'm struggling to find time to get down to the allotment. Once a fortnight for about an hour is as much as I can do.

About half the plot is now under control and onions and potatoes looking good:
                            WP_20150611_006.jpg

                            Kelsae have established:
                            WP_20150611_005.jpg

Parsnips direct sown in early April failed and the bed was swamped with creeping thistle. Sprayed off those nasty weeds and this morning planted a second batch from RootTrainers:
                            WP_20150611_013.jpg

The top half of the plot is mostly fruit bushes and I'm just letting them do their own thing, I'm not going to have time to net them so I'm hoping the birds don't get too many.

Hi Beckie, yes time is a problem so I'm very happy that the plot is more or less looking after itself.
