We are keen gardners but have just moved into a flat on the south coast. The wind does blow!! Any ideas what I can grow on a open balcony & how best to grow it. Interested in veg mainly but a few hardy flowers would be welcome. Wind scorch could definately be a problem with any tender 'leafy' plants
    Thanks
P.S. We have always gardened in unexposed areas & this presents us with problems that we have not had to tackle before.

You could try carrots and a few other root vegetables in a trough - at least they wouldn't suffer from wind scorch!

If allowable I would try to form a wind break round the balcony made of heavy duty clear polythene or even some thin acrylic sheets.
