I confess to not knowing/understanding how the key system works, but, aren't you given a receipt at the point of sale for the £20 charge up? :dunno:
What if the "key" develops a fault, how on earth could people prove they had been charging it up at the shop before the penny drops the key may be faulty (and how much would they need to "spend" in order to establish a faulty key?)

Just found this tip for a meter key
did you try that before you went back to charge it up with more credit? Did you even know you could?

I just think the whole system is so wrong! On a number of levels :nonofinger:

No receipt for the top up, just an overall receipt for everything I bought but not itemised.

I don't know if the paypoint machine automatically links to the till, or if the lady has to type the amount in. I do know that she was gabbing to someone else throughout the whole transaction, so her mind was not exactly focused on what she was doing.

I did clean the key before buying more credit. It did nothing. The meter was registering the presence of the key and was not reporting an error code, which it does if it misreads.

I can remember, as a kid, sitting under the stairs putting old pennies in the meter, before they changed it to a modern one which took shillings and two bob bits.

Not sure how these key meters work, but I do know they cause one hell of a queue to develop in the local small co op, while they are being processed.

I'd be inclined to take the receipt and the key back to the shop tomorrow mate - they might be able to sort it out for you.

And then get that meter changed as soon as you can - I'd guess that you are paying at least 15% over the odds because of it.
