Kniphofia flower stem plantlets

I have a red hot poker plant which has developed two plantlets on a flower stem.
What should I do to propagate these two plantlets ?
So far they don’t have any roots so I am pretty wary of cutting them and trying to root in compost / sandy compost.
Any experience of this and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

 

Can you pull them down to ground level and cover with soil.
They might then root and you can separate when they have a decent root system of their own.

 

Just tried - the old flower stem seems too stiff to get it all the way down to ground level. I’d be scared that the old flower stem would just break off from the parent plant.
I guess if that happened I could then just chop the old flower stem and try getting each plantlet to root ??

 

Maybe best to just leave alone then and see what happens.

 

I've grown Kniphofia ( both the basic one and the dwarf type ) for years in several differnt gardens but have never come across the plantlet as in your photo. My current one has 8 or 9 flower stems at present.
If you can't do as @pete suggests there is another method you could try tho I don't know whether it would work on this plant................ a polythene bag round the base of the plantlet and tied to the stem.......... stretch the bag up around the base of the plantlet............put some compost/soil in the bag and damp it..........tie the top of the bag so it forms a little pouch and see whether it will form roots within the pouch. It's a bit fiddly I know but if your main plant is happy and thriving, you won't have lost anything by trying. Be interested to know how you get on
