Sorry to hear you've had a trying day, Sheal :grphg:
If you want to see it as a "winner", think on ... it wasn't the sewer pipe they split (imagine *that* all over your garden :eeew: it would have taken the phrase moo poo day to new levels)
Hopefully today things will only get better :spinning:

I must be honset, i like to see cables above ground, you can see them, when underground there are very hard to see, yes with all the plans in the world a cable a gas main may not be in the place it's marked on the plan, but the digger driver should be going carefulley, but even if there is only a few mm's of soil on the cable or pipe you sometimes can see it, that's why a person is in the trench with a shovel,
Yes i've put out a big village once, got out the MEB to find the cable and they gave us plans and said the cable is there and marked it with yellow spary, 5 minutes into digging the trench, BANG, we found the 10,000 volt cable, and yes it was 10 feet away from where it was on the map and to where MEB man said to was and marked it with the spray, so you never know
And boy it was hair raising, lucky i didn't get too much of a shock, but you should have seen what it did to the digger bucket :yikes::wow:

Thanks "M". The sewer pipe wasn't an issue as they are digging just outside the garden and it's only 9 inches across and 4 to 5ft down. :)

Jiffy......the route on the plan was correct and I knew exactly where the gas main was and told them so last Friday. They were very careful digging down towards the sewer, which they didn't reveal anyway because of it's depth. They probably thought the gas main was of similar depth but it's only about 2ft down. The pipe is also set in concrete so they must have hit it quite hard with the digger to go through it. I must say the Gas Board's response was very quick, somebody was here withing fifteen minutes to turn our supply off. The repair to the pipe took twenty minutes and the gas was back on within an hour.

You're lucky to be with us then thankfully. I hope you haven't had to many experiences like that!

Yes, but if you know not to touch anything metal just sit in the seat, feet off the floor and don't touch any thing your ok

I've dug up a 4 inch gas main which was, on the plan as being 2 feet deep, we found it at 3 inchs deep :yay:
On another job in some ones garden and the gas pipe to the house was only 1 inch under the soil, so yes you have to be careful

I can understand that Dips. Luckily that's not a problem I have, but my neighbours visitors park on the greensward outside my place and that has the same effect on me, why do people seem incapable of parking on roads properly anymore. :doh:I mow the greensward and there's nothing worse than having to tackle ruts left by there wheels!

Dips, I knew someone who had that problem. They produced neat, little notices to place under the wipers asking, politely, for them to not obstruct the driveway. The third time a notice was put on the same car it was on a self-adhesive backing that was a booger to get off the glass! It worked :blue thumb:

Sheal, a few conveniently placed big rocks, painted white, on the edge of the sward might help.

They may have thought it was double yellow line and thought it was ok to park :snork:

Oh i know sheal its ridiculous and what annoys me the most is in my case its pure laziness. They only have to pull forward a bit and they would fit perfectly between mine and nextdoors driveway without hanging over either.

I would do that shiney if it was ever the people who park outside because they work at the hosp or in the town centre and dont pay for parking. Unfortunately the people who park like this are people visiting my neighbours which makes it even more frustrating.

I just really dont want to allienate and annoy people and ruin what slightly civil relationships i do have with my neighbours

Plus im terrible at confronting people lol

This is something which really irritates me! :th scifD36:. We live 2 doors down from our village pub every year on or near guy Fawkes night they have a bonfire party which is great if you like that sort of thing! The whole village decide they need to drive to the pub with their darling children & there sweetie wrappers, which cannot be put into the bin! They park over my drive on the grass verge which I keep nice & if that's not enough they then reverse on to my drive so they can turn around to go home, well NOT anymore! I park our three vechicles along the road, my friends who come from other villages with their children park on my drive, once they are parked I put the three wheelie bins along the edge of the drive so no one can reverse on to my drive! I know it's petty & pathetic it it sends me up the wall! If there was an emergency like an ambulance was needed or fire engine they'd never get to the incident because the cars park on both sides of the road & there wouldn't be enough room to get through. I feel your pain Dips :yikes: maybe as already suggested some cones or a polite note on their car or could you speak to your neighbours about it? I'm sure if you were really nice about it they would understand. Good luck my friend
