If we go for a walk we take our lives in our hands, it's single track roads with a few placing places a bit of grass verge and ditch full of water, we now have to make vehicals slow down to pass us as there only enough room to pass slow, a few times we have had to jump into the ditches because these vehicals don't have breaks and won't slow down

Oh drivers over here use signals quite often, Lori :) ... lots of them ...

... usually they take the form of a) flashing their headlamps at you or b) something to do with pointing to the sky with their middle finger or c) shaking their fist in a manner similar to shaking dice  :dunno:
I usually conclude that a) must be someone I know saying "Hi"; b) they are singing along to "The only way is up ... " and/or c) they are hoping to get a double 6 :)
The irony being, it is usually men who do this and, let's face it, they are hardly renown for being able to multi-task so it's quite impressive really: well and truly worthy of the wave and the smile I give them in return :)

          Buying plastic carrier bags!
We all know by now that we have to take our own carrier bags to the supermarket etc or you have to pay a minimum of 5p for each one. Last week I was in the supermarket at the checkout In a hurry (I had a meeting to attend) when the jerk in front of me said to the cashier 'I'm not paying for a bag!' The cashier replied ' you are because the store will get a £5000 fine if you don't' he carried on shouting his mouth off about paying for plastic bags etc etc he was like a spoilt child! The argument went on & he eventually said 'I don't want my shopping if you are going to charge me for a bag' by now I was getting a little short tempered mainly because he was so rude to the girl on the checkout, & we all know we have to pay for carriers, in a very calm quiet voice I said to him 'if you don't want to pay for a carrier bag put your groceries back into the trolley & leave them or pay for them, load them back into your trolley & take them to your car BUT don't argue with the cashier she's only doing her job! He looked rather shocked & embarrased went quiet, paid for his goods loaded them into the trolley & off he went! But why,why be do rude? Why be do difficult? Why pick on a young girl? It drives me potty how rude some people can be! Rant over!

Can anyone explain why low voltage stuff like lap tops etc. have a power cable that looks like something nicked from the national grid?

Mine has 4ft of 13 amp cable going to a transformer that's 5in long, the cable then goes down in size to a 6ft length of the most rigid cable I've ever come across which was tied up in a cable tie when I bought it.
Consequently its all twisted and kinked and gets in a knot by just looking at it.

                    B****y Chinese crap.

Oh, and the cable on my sat nav is just about the same minus the transformer.

@pete - you would be surprised at the stresses (physical) placed upon laptop chargers and similar. Modern rechargeable appliances tend to have either Li-ion batteries or LiPo batteries, both of which are capable of charging quite fast - - however, for anything to charge fast, the current draw has to rise significantly.

Run your laptop battery down until it is near empty and then whack the charger in -- give it half an hour or so and whip the plug out of the laptop and check its temperature (bearing in mind the plug is made of solid stainless steel), and it might give you an inkling as to the current being drawn when the charger is at full tilt. Sadly, to draw that kind of current DC requires a hefty cable, and the cable gauge alone makes it highly inflexible.

I kind of thought someone was going to say that FC.

But surely a sat nav could have similar cable to phone?

Sadly not @pete - it all comes down to the current required to carry out the task in hand. Phones have an inbuilt battery (usually Li-ion) that supplies a nice constant voltage and current to the hardware to allow it to do its job. Sat-Nav units tend to rely on smoothing capacitors which are essentially low capacity batteries, to supply them with the power they need; the power from these capacitors is short lived, hence the requirement for a constant current from the chosen power supply.

For a sat-nav to receive the relevant satellite signal requires quite a current due to it 'ranging' until the signal is identified and locked onto. The required current is way more than the inbuilt caps can cater for, hence the current drawn.

Sadly, we have all become so used to the advances in technology that we fail to remember just where we have come from - - less than 30 years ago, we were happy with a TV that had 3 channels that you had to get up and walk over to the set itself to change the channel; so, bluntly, the fact that this wee box that knows exactly where you are, and can tell you exactly where to go requiring a chunk of current to keep it going it a minor inconvenience.

Kind of brings my moan down to, why cant they carefully roll the cable up so its not kinked to start with?

Don't forget that they are flex cables and a few copper strands in the cable may break in time so over rated to start with
