That's sad..but the noises they make used to sent my dogs stupid. One night the the dogs got me up at 2 in the morning, I was calling them back in was a nightmare both dog appeared with hedgehogs in their mouths. Fortunately the drop it command works with both so both baby hedgehogs had very soft landings on grass. Both my dogs are extremely gentle and can carry raw eggs without breaking them so I know the hedgehogs didn't come to any harm thank god

          Thanks Beckie,
We're doing what we can for the hedgehogs and then you see them dead on the side of the road, you start to think is it worth it :wallbanging:

I know exactly what you are saying you may have seen my post the other night (I got home from work to find a hedgehog on my patio, poor dear had two ticks on her back, I removed them & fed her cat food & left out a dish of water, I've not seen her since I just hope she's now ok) we see lots of dead hedgehogs on the roads around here, when I see one (alive) on the road I pick them up & pop them on the verge :dbgrtmb:. personally I can't see why so many wild animals get squashed on the roads, I'm happy to break/stop if I'm traveling along the country roads I see no point in killing an animal if it can be avoided.

Our road saga continues. I got a phone call from the water authority telling me that they haven't started digging the road up again, as if I hadn't noticed , because there has been a mains burst. They don't know how long it will be before they can reschedule the job but they will let me know. :wallbanging:

Good for you, yes we do the same but there are people that do not like wildlife :mute: ie fox, badger and crows, and now hedgehogs

@Beckie76 we don't have hedgehogs here but I do break for small animals. We see lots of black squirrels all squashed by cars so I'm guessing they are much stupider than the grey ones

Locally, a man blames the badgers for the reduction in hedgehog numbers :dunno:

Well, i thought the hedgehog was a goner but one was back for food last night, so we have a few about :yahoo:
We have badgers and foxs which are know for killing hedgehogs coming to the garden, now (2nd year) we have hedgehogs :yahoo:
I look at it this way, if the fox and badger are hungry they're going to look for any sort of food but we mustn't over feed them as it will go the other way it's got to be a fine balance

I support my local Hedgehog sanctuary and the old boy who runs it is certain Badgers kill 1000s and 1000s of Hedgehogs every year. He was looking round for suitable sites to release Hedgies he had nursed back to health and I told him about where I live (on very quiet road and have woods, surrounded by farmland) thinking this would be a suitable spot. He asked me how often I saw Hedgehogs (seen 2 in 13 years! so not a lot) and if I thought we had Badgers (answered pretty sure yes) He then said where I live would be hopeless regrettably.
